Approximately five miles west of Minneapolis, bordering State
Highway 7, at Cambridge Street and Hiawatha Avenue in Hopkins,
across Highway 7 from Target / Knollwood shopping
area (see map below).

The forest is
a short distance from Minnehaha Creek.
The forest is in a
congested area of roadways, businesses, and multi-family housing.
This area, designated Hiawatha Oaks Preserve, is a passive
open space in the Hopkins Parks program.
The forest
consists of approximately 75 trees averaging 70 to 80 years old, primarily
oaks. Some are well over 100 years old. Many of the trees
measure 22, 24, 30 and 36 inches in diameter.
We thank the city
of Hopkins for their partnership with us in preserving and
maintaining Hiawatha Oaks Preserve as a part of the Hopkins
Parks Program and hanging yellow ribbons in the trees to identify
the area during the fundraising period.
You
can see part of the woods from Highway 7 as you are near
Knollwood Mall.
Three trees were recently planted. Renewal will continue.
We ask people to enjoy this preserve from its outer boundaries. There are no walking paths or bike paths that run through
the forest.
A brick will be placed in Hopkins Clock Tower Plaza on Mainstreet:
We thank everyone who has helped with the effort. |
