Recycling aluminum project being brought to a close

In addition to the contributions received, the Oaks Folks recycled aluminum.

Recycling aluminum cans to save an oak forestWire bins are located next to the forest. Walkers, drivers and bikers deposited aluminum cans. A literature box on one of the bins holds Oaks Folks newsletters.

Businesses and organizations saved aluminum cans for the trees: Car-X, American Medical Systems, Frame Design, Head Waters Trading Company, Hopkins Autobody, Hopkins Floral and Gifts, Hopkins Activity Center, Hopkins Area Family Resource Center and Hopkins Community Library. What a wonderful feeling, to know so many people helped.

Receipts from the project: almost $4,000. The proceeds went into a "working fund" for postage, printing, and other expenses.

Association members Joey and Malora Carlson began this recycling project. After Joey died in December 2000, Malora continued to collect and crush cans and deliver them to the recycling center. She died of a heart attack in January, 2003. We miss them and their efforts to help preserve these trees which benefit so many people.
